Civics Explained

Terms of use

Last updated: 20 September 2026.

What this is

A free study aid for the United States naturalisation civics test. Use it however you like. The official questions and answers it reproduces are public domain works of the US government.

No affiliation

Not affiliated with USCIS or the U.S. government. A free study aid. The official questions and answers are published by USCIS at uscis.gov/citizenship.

No legal or immigration advice

Nothing on this site is legal advice, immigration advice, or advice about your individual case. Using this site does not create any professional relationship. For advice about your own situation, consult an immigration attorney or a DOJ-accredited representative.

Accuracy, and its limits

The official questions and answers are copied verbatim from USCIS form M-1778 (09/25). The explanations are a study aid and are not official USCIS material.

Eight answers change over time — the ones that depend on your state or on who holds a federal office. We show the date each was last checked, but we give no warranty that they are current. Verify at uscis.gov/citizenship/testupdates before your interview. At the interview you must answer with the official serving on that day.

We make no promise about your test result. No site can guarantee that you pass.

Liability

This site is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of it.
